It’s been a while but I’ve been out and about trying to get my life together so that’s forgivable, right? in the meantime, I’ve actually been to a real life gig and it was pretty good, if you must know. the band that played that day were called Sad Day for puppets and they were pretty excellent, if you must know.
I’m not the biggest fan of shoegaze, as you might have guessed by the posts on this blog. That’s nto to say that i dislike the genre -= it’s pretty fucking ace – but I’ve just never delved too deep into it in order to gain a massive knowledge of it. I’ve seen My bloody valentine live and that, and I love Moscow Olympics and Pains of Being Pure at Heart (who are playing tonight with It’s a Buffalo, but I’m missing them for a fucking friend’s 21st), but that’s about it. It’s be unfair to lump in Sad day for Puppets in with them as a group, but they do make some pretty dreamy pop music that makes yr heart swell and ache. Well, maybe nothing that pretentious, but it is pretty sweet stuff, and they have definitely taken inspiration from the shoegaze ethic of the vocals being more of an instrument than a… voice? I dunno, but it is pretty easy to get lost in the music. Very easy.
They’re well worth listening to and i still think they’re in the Uk for the next couple of days, so if you’ve got the chance to see them, you definitely should. They are very good, and even had a dancing competition going on throughout their set, which was odd as most people there were clearly more comfortable clinging to the walls and… dare I say it… gazing at their shoes.
here’s a song of theirs for you to download from panda magazine or something rather than the usual mediafire/rapidhsare stuff, enjoy.
