Woodsist is a record label that is enough to make you feel physically sick at times. whilst you’re sat at home watching X-Factor, they’re putting out 7″‘s by Vivian Girls and records by Real Estate and The Fresh and Onlys. not only that, the person who runs it is also in Woods, who’re playing Shred Yr Face 3 in the coming weeks. Anyway, they’ve done it again and are putting out a record out by another awesome artist they heard before you. This time it’s Beach Fossils.
Dustin Payseur is the man behind the project, and so far his output is one of shaky, jangly genius. His songs are supposedly self recorded and come across and something that Nodzzz might make if they were a bit more in-tune and pop inspired. It’s probably a bit closer to Washed Out, but with decent guitar riffs instead of the balaeric dance notion. Last.fm compares it to Internet Forever, which is well wide of the mark, and whereas the lo-fi notion might be there in practice, the songs (that i’ve heard, anyway) are better produced than that label suggests. The vocals are purposely distorted which only adds to the sun-drenched sound that Beach Fossils let us bask in.
