You may not have noticed, but Pigeon Post flew the coop for 70 or so days. And in amongst the good, the bad and the average bands that were sent as suggestions throughout the sojourn, one thing kept cropping up – people asking for another chance to enter the mixtape swap. So, to celebrate the fact i once again have access to high speed internet and to appease these noisy few people who turned up late to the leaving party, here’s another chance for you to make a little mixtape swapping. Even if you managed to get an entry in last time, your attendence is more than welcome – in fact, without it, this whole thing will probably fail miserabley, so please enter.
The same rules/suggestions as last time apply.Submissions are open from now and should be uploaded to mediafire or any similar online filesharing site in a zipped, album format with a link to the file sent to mbritton2@gmail.com. Closing date is the the morning of the 4th April, at which juncture they’ll be packaged up and sent off to another entrant. Similarly, you’ll also recieve your own little bundle of joy to fawn over. As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also get an alternative ‘second place’ mixtape just incase the first one is filled with an hour or dubstep/polka crossover or, more likely, that the link has ‘expired’.
Last time, links ‘expiring’ was the main problem, and it’s obviously one that you yourself can probably do very little about. But there were some other entries – people uploading individual songs, for example, that were equally troublesome. So please, if you can, make sure that the mixtape is put into it’s own little album and zipped up nice and tight for someone to recieve on April 4th. Try and make the tracks appear as an album to mp3 players i.e. it’ll show as an entire album on itunes rather than disparate tracks. It’s not that difficult and saves a lot of time when people are looking on their iPods for the tracks. In terms of making the mix, the best method I’ve found is to create a new folder on your desktop and then copy and paste the songs you want into that – it makes it a lot easier to zip, for one thing.
Anyway, here’s a final checklist, in case you need it
- Submissions open now
- Around 10 tracks long, any age/genre but preferably newer stuff
- Zip/Rar it
- Upload to mediafire / similar filesharing website
- Send link to mbritton2@gmail.com by 11 a.m. April 4th 2010
- Expect an email with your ‘swap’ around the same time
If there’s anything else that needs clearing up, feel free to ask. After this, there probably won’t be another swap until Christmas, so make it special.
