MALE BONDING – YEAR’S NOT LONG
Patriotism is completely redundant, but it’s difficult not to feel somewhat proud of Male Bonding. After traipsing round the London scene for a fair while, they were picked up by Sub Pop a while ago and now they’re one of pitchfork’s darlings. On top of that, their music hasn’t really suffered either, as this track shows.

WEIRD WIVES – WHEN DOVES CRI
Surfer Blood are amazing – everyone has pretty much accepted that and moved on. Weird Wives are a side-project of the band, making some excellent noise punk that some people are even daring to venture is better than the group it’s splintered from. Judge for yourself – it’s a very close call.

NME DAILY DOWNLOAD – LA SPECIAL #1
feat. Liars, We are the World
To celebrate the start of their LA week, the NME’s daily download blog has chosen a band equally as synonymous as the New York scene as that on the west coast. When it’s a band as good as Liars it barely matter, however – they could’ve been doing a Manchester special and everyone would still be greatful to get two free Liars songs. As well as a free five-track EP, there’s a pretty amazing blog to go with it, too.

SOCKET SCIENCE – EPHEDRA
Whereas they might not do it with the same routine that the likes of Beko put out great free material, Astor Bell still know how to get a good download together. The 13th in the labels series, it’s the second from Socket Science – three dark, fractured songs, yours for absolutely nothing.

POULE DO’OR COMPILATION #3
Whilst there’s another Pigeon Playlist on it’s way, it seems like it might simply be an exercise in futility given the quality elsewhere – Hendrik over at Poule D’Or has strapped together 19 amazing tracks and stuck them on mediafire. Amongst the stars on show are Zambri, Tanlines and My Tiger, My Timing. There are thousands of blogs around the world, but few manage to put out compilations as consistently good as this.

BEKO DSL – FOLLE EGLISE/CHICALOYOH
The usual brilliance from the little French label. If you don’t know what it’s about already, now is a perfect time to start. Jump in with this split release – the start of a series of such efforts.

VIVIAN GIRLS – DAYTROTTER SESSION
A few weeks old, but incase you missed it (like myself) then here’s a little reminder – Vivian Girls popped into daytrotter and sang a few songs for them. Superb, as ever.
