It seems that these days, you’re a nobody in the DIY scene unless you’ve got a side project. Of course, being in a main band that’s doing relatively well is a prerequisite, but the better your other works do, the more the hipster kids will love you. Deerhunter are a classic example – whilst making some of the most important, influential music of the modern day as a group, of the current line-up there’s only Moses Archuleta who doesn’t have a listed outlet outside of the bad. Between the rest of them, there are Atlas Sounds, Ghetto Cross, The Wet Dreams (Bradford Cox), Diet Cola, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Josh Fauver) and Lotus Plaza (Lockett Pundt), all of which have been acclaimed by most of the major music websites, and given away by pretty much all of the download blogs.
With 2009′s OCD GO GO GO GIRLS, Lovvers proved that the talent shown on their early demos and seven inches was suitable for a long player, having mostly put out frantic, punchy punk rock releases that raced to an early finish. But since way before that saw the light of day, Harry from the band had been diversifying with the brilliant Human Hair (who share their name with a Lovvers track), playing guitar in the five-piece. In March of last year, they put out a self-titled 7″ on Sex is Disgusting, which reliably sold out it’s 250 pressing. The inspiration for their sound is chaotic, being drenched in art-rock sensibilities, dressed up with an almost rockabilly worth ethic and delivery whilst having an undeniable post-punk influence running throughout. It’s almost psychotic in it’s execution, with a sense of foreboding looming over everything the band commit to record. Unsurprisingly, they’re absolutely brilliant in all their seedy, foot stomping glory. Fittingly, they share members with the equally awesome Pet Prizes.
