There are so many wannabe hipster in the world that we have to accept that most of them must be making a pretty big effort to live in this state of sweet, bro-fi bliss. Bleeding knees Club are a band that make that strain feel almost palpable, from their last.fm description through to their selected pictures, a theme that runs through to their sound. Markedly mimicking the tones of Black Lips and their ilk, it’s far from as fluid as it’s predecessors, not quite as natural, but still pretty special.
Branding themselves as indie/punk, it’s a description that kind of misses the beauty of their sound – an upfront take of rockabilly at it’s most pop, mixed in with the more palatable aspects of Wavves third album. A duo make up of two dudes from Australia’s Gold Coast, the songs they make are unmistakably brash, but in a playful way, like a hateful puppy. It’s good to know that the time they’ve spent doing their hair and posing for pictures hasn’t been wasted – there’s a slot at Big Day Out festival just after new year followed by a spring tour with Nathan Williams himself. We can’t all be bros, but Bleeding Knees Club just might be.
