Remember when Fyfe Dangerfield was cool? Back before the solo project and John Lewis adverts? Me neither, but the singer in Lazy Hurricane has more than a Fyfe-y twang to his delivery, which is probably the closest to being hip that Guillemots have been in a long time. It does nothing to lower the brilliance of LH’s music, however – a bewildering tropical assault on the senses, like being beaten up by a steel drum band for charity and quite liking it. Maybe that’s analogy is a bit too broad for a band who seem to have an awful lot of nous, juggling that whole afrobeat thing with a touch of indie and an awful lot of pop.
They’ve featured on the latest Tough Love sampler, which is as good of a mark of excellence as any, and their effort Heartswordsfire is definitely one of the standout tracks.
