Achieving success in any field takes two things, the first one being a modicum of talent. The second, and possibly more important, is the ability to make sure that anyone who is anyone knows abouts that talent. Manchester producer Borland has the first bit tied down quite expertly, as the variety of glitchy, glimmering electro tracks strewn about bandcamp are a testament to. EP Quantum Woman is a particular highlight, managing to be both wide-eyed and ambitious whilst retaining a slightly dirty edge – there’s the usual comparisons to be made with Four Tet and the like, and they’re hugely justified. Borland have just about done enough for the minute, however, starting new label Gulf to launch a split 12″ with From The Kites of San Quentin. 2010 appeared to be a year of vast creation for the electronic outfit – 2011 should be the time when they get to shout about it.
