Little Black Ant claims to make music that is ‘cinematic’, though whatever movie that this could be the soundtrack to would be utterly terrifying. A mixture of dark, bass and glimpses of light through creeping synth, underpinned with the slightest hint of wobble, it sounds like it was recorded with monochrome in mind. perhaps this could all be the backing beat for a gripping, sombre, but incredibly meaningful coming of age movie. The list of influences are as lengthy as they are true – XXXY, James Blake, Aphex Twin and Gold Panda are amongst the many mentioned, and you can tell from the depth and texture of everything put out so far that this is far from just a copy and paste job.
