Have there been any studies done on how much the soundtracks of video games has affected pop music? My Panda Shall Fly’s Xerox sounds like it’s been ripped from the best Megadrive game you’ve never played, something it feeds back in on itself with it’s Commodore 64 inspired promo clip. Xiu Xiu did a similar thing for Boy Soprano back in 2006, though it’s no surprise that Jamie Stewart’s digitised effort (and, indeed, song) was a lot more harrowing that MPSF’s.
In the wrong mood, this could easily give you a headache, the onslaught of purposely cheap sounding synth, back up with bleeps and shrieks probably not the best concoction if you’ve got a hangover. A world away from the camp nothingness that is chiptune, it’s utterly relentless to the point of being near overwhelming.
MPSF playing at Plan B Brixton, Thursay 6th October – £3 Entry all night
