Witch House was fun, but what did we learn? Nothing, pretty much. Well, almost nothing – some people seem to have stripped the dead or dying genre of that all-encompassing, deeply powerful atmosphere that it and it alone seemed to be able to make. And one of the beneficiaries has been Christopher Bell, who manages to take what might otherwise been a couple of standard, run of the mill IDM tracks on soundcloud and transform them into something nothing short of mesmerising.
Working under the name Keep Away The Light, you get the impression that even Bell himself doesn’t quite know what he’s made – tagged as ‘lo-fi chillwave’, it couldn’t be much further away from the realms of Washed Out without purposely trying. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing a lot more from the Newcastle based producer in the near future.
