I’ve spent the last hour trying to sort it out, but it’s no use – actually no use. Though various sites offer ‘help’ on streaming myspace songs to your blog or whatever, few of them workl. And seeing as Kitty Conehead on Fire are probably the smallest band in the history of the world (seriously, I’ve had mates in bands with more exposure), I think I’m going to have to give up and just tell you to listen to the songs on their myspace.
I was also going to link you to a few of their downloads (again, via their myspace profile) but seeing as I’m in a library, that’s not working out at all, so you’ll have to do that yourself too. I know, I’m not being very helpful today, but enough about me, let’s talk about Kitty. They hail from Kansas, USA (though my instict told me Canada, for whatever reason). Somehow, they’ve managed to craft a sound that is both unique and familar – drawing on melodic pop in some songs, such as kill the lights, whilst relying on a similar formula to that of Architecture in Helsinki. Though their sound is far from the complexities and depth of bands like Sigur Ros or Arcade Fire, they make songs just as haunting, but doubly catchy.
Their best song is the previously mentioned Kill the Lights, which is istantly accesible, catchy and will play upon your mind all day. the simple ‘ba, ba da do’ at the start is enough to make anybody’s feet tap, and it’s a epic throughout. But if that doesn’t ensnare you, then try out la la with me, which is equally catchy, but doesn’t have the same capacity of annoyance.
Given that the band apparently don’t tour much and seem intent on making as little effort as possible in avdertising themselves, it looks as though they’re bound to be a brilliant band forgotten. Listen ot their myspace, add them as friends, tell your mates about them – anything that gives them more of a chance of getting some kind of record deal. they truly deserve it.
And if checking out their myspace is too much of a hassle for you, I’ve managed to find (through the miracle of youtube) Kitty Conehead playing ‘Kill the lights‘ live someplace, somewhere. it doesn’t start until about a minute and a half in, so just skip it a bit if you can’t be bothered with the repetitive banging at the start:
and if anyone has any idea about how I could get those songs from myspace to this page, please comment or e-mail me or something. OR If you manage to download some of their songs, rehost them somewhere? the library is bringing me down.
Any help is appreciated.
