Not only do i love this band’s name, but they also make some of the bets music I’ve heard from a band that i found in another blog since Internet Forever. The Pains of being Pure at Heart are an amazing 4 piece from New York, their debut, eponymous album is out now, and it’s got the kind of dreamy quality that you wouldn’t expect from the big apple. I don’t ereally know what to compare it to – it’s got a little bit of 1980’s madchester pop in there (but in a good way, not in a happy monday kind of way), but that’s only a hint – and I mean a hint – of their overall sound. they have similar qualities to Times New Viking and No Age (but without a tenth as much feedback) and even a bit of Sonic Youth. The best thing you can do is find out for yourself, really. here’s a video for ‘Everything with you’:
They’ve got a lot of stuff to download from all over the place at the minute, but here’s a link to some of their music that you should probably get yrself. It includes my personal favourite, the excellently named ‘things that wouldn’t make your parents proud’ amongst others like ‘young adult friction’. I can’t remember where I found this, but here’s a mediafire link. Dunno if they’re proper files or what, let us know if you want me to take them down:
They’re playing a load of tour dates all over the place at the minute playing with, amongst others, the amazing Vivian Girls. here’s something copied and pasted from their website incase you can’t be bothered to click over there yourself:
