I was blogsearching the other days, looking for something to do over the summer when i bumped into this post over at Amusia, telling me all about this little festival that Brainlove records are putting on. Of course, me being behind the times, i didn’t even know that it existed, or that it happened last year and looked total awesome. Naturally, my interest was piqued when I saw that my favourite favourites Internet Forever were playing. As well as this, two thirds of IF are playing seperately, meaning you can catch Laura Wolf and Heartbeeps on the same day – how fucking ace is that?
Of course, I’ve talked a lot about how much I love IF, and rightly so – they’re super awesome. But there are other bands on the bill that are brilliant too. For instance, The Middle Ones make some amazing folk-ish music, and are the cutest two-piece you’re likely to see outside of the wonderful Slow Club. In fact, they make music much like SC, and when I first saw them, I had their music stuck in my head for ages. Well worth checking out. Mat Riverie, who was also playing when I saw The Middle Ones supporting Parenthetical Girls, is well worth a listen too.
What you’ve got to realise, however, is how much i am hesitating writing this next paragraph. you might have noticed that, abotu a line ago, I mentioned I saw Parenthetical Girls playing a few months ago, one wonderful November night at Kro Bar. I also posted over the last few days about how i had seen Internet Forever and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Also brilliant gigs. the one thing that ties them all together, though, is that at each of them i have seen Manchester’s very own Jam on Bread in the crowd. I am certain that he thinks I am stalking him – I mean, I am sure that he goes to far more gigs than I go to, and I am not always in attendance, but let’s look at the facts. He makes some pretty good music, something I would like to do if I had the talent. He had a beard, something I am unable to have. He like manatees, and writes songs about them. And about Labrador records. And about pretty much everything cool. He wears a ‘Unicorn Power’ t-shirts. And I know all this about him, and I spotted him at the fresher’s fayre for Manchester Met. And I am sure he thinks I am stalking him.
Anyway, the info for the festival can be found over here or on the poster above, and you should certainly attend. There’s a free BBQ, which is always a bonus (unless yr a vegetarian like myself) and it should be an amazing day. But I will be stuck in work. Shit.
I have eaten, here are links to songs you might like:
