If you’re into whiny, emo Bright Eyes stuff then this is definitely for you. In fact, a post I did a few weeks ago about an album of Bright Eyes covers by Cpatain Chaos is highly relevant to this, too. Chris Clavin, half of I like Japanese Hardcore, is/was Captain Chaos. The other half, however, is the only one who ever did any recording for the band, and even that was a radio session that’s simply been translated into a free online album.
Anyway, I like Japanese Hardcore have split up now, after only writing a few songs and recording even less. I don’t know what it is, but some small defect of me really likes the odd emo singer-songwriter track, but only when it’s sung with a lot of passion. I don’t know – somewhere deep inside of me is an angsty thirteen year old that’s still pissed off at not having a girlfriend and not being popular at school. Urgh. Urgh.
As I stated before, this is only the female half of the band performing alone. Standout track is ‘Song about a boy’ which is pure, unfiltere teen angst. It’s horrible, but it’s sickly sickly sweet. Here’s the entire album, anyway, their only ever release:
Oh, and I was reminded of this by an e-mail I got advertising one of the worst singer songwriters I’ve ever heard. And it wasn’t even David Gray this time.
