Shopping is horrible. But one good thing that can come of it is picking up a few flyers for things that you dind’t relaise were happening – as happened to me today. Inbetween being dragged around Zara and Primark, Fopp had flyers telling me that Nodzzz and Male Bonding are playing the Bay Horse in Manchester on Sunday 27th of September, which should be awesome. of course, if you could help me out by telling me where exactly the Bay Horse is, that would be brilliant.
Anyway, about the band themselves – what to say? They definitely fit the bill as one of the lo-fi bands that sound really exciting right now, and the brevity of their debut album is extreme – a pounding, whirling 10 songs and 16 minutes and you’re done. Though they’re often painting as noise-pop, it’s probably fairer to say they’re garage punk – their songs lack the fuzzy pop choruses of Vivian Girls or Best Coast, for instance.
They’re definitely worth a listen if you’re into Dum Dum Girls or just general lo-fi fuzz, and especially with Male Bonding (expect a post on their soon) in support and all for a fiver, you cannot afford to miss them. they’re playing elsewhere, but I’ve not managed to find a definitive list as of yet, but check out their myspace to try find if they’re playing near you.
