Having travelled in similar circles to the excellent Nodzzz and Male Bonding as well as the Grafitti Island, what isn’t suprising is how good Veronica Falls are – it’s suprising how long it has taken for me to find out about them. When not swirling around in two part harmonies, they’re rattling their guitars about and sounding like a poppier version of my bloody valentine’s more… well, poppy songs. In fact, the whole London music scene at the minute is making me feel so sick that i’m up north that it’s untrue.
Anyway, this track (one of two on their myspace and the only one that anywhere has got to download) might not sound like the kind of thing that you might listen to at the beginning – and the lyrics might seem a bit simplistically gothic, but I think that’s the point. Once you’re halfway through, you’ll be ecstatic – they’re really quite beautiful. Their gig diary seems a bit empty at the moment, but one can only hope that they’ll be touring at some point soon – or at least releasing a 7″.
