First a reference to a myspace blog by Ste McCabe, which tells us all that the music scene in Manchester is dead. Presumably because we don’t go to Ste McCabe gigs:
“It’s my home City and I feel a bit like – well, fuck you. Miserable cunts! Playing in London on Thursday was ace, I made loads of new fans, signed a cd for one of my heroes (Boy George), spoke to people who got what I was doing. Then I play Manchester – for fucking free! – and I really could be the boy Wendy James on his/her first gig. It’s just a real shame. Wake up Manchester, or people will stop forming bands and culture here.”
Not that it’s worth taking any notice of that post, just thought it would be worth contrasting it with the best invite I’ve had in a long while – Doris and the Jumpers are playing in a KITCHEN! With support from The Shrieking Violets. I hope I can go more than anything. Here’s news from the Facebook event page:
Come see Doris and the Jumpers, MRBLKRSHRRRRR, The Shrieking violets, and The Blank Tapes play this Friday. Bring booze, friends and food. Do not bring knifes, sharks and rocks. This performance will be being recorded via something called, a video camera, whatever that means. Feel free to sell zines, badges, or exhibit images/photographs.
I’ve already posted about Doris and The Violets, but I’m yet to post about MRBLKRSHRRRRR, who are also pretty good. Let’s use this blog as an introduction to them – their myspace is one of the most puzzling collections of music that you’re ever likely to stumble across. From the excellently titled ‘Why can’t I kiss you til I did?’ to the utterly bizarre celebration of the deaths of George Harrison and John Lennon, they’re the kind of thing that my mother would call a choatic mess. But then again, her favourite song is by phil collins and she’s still mourning the death of Michael Jackson, which simply proves how good MRBLKRSHRRRRR, especially on Jackie Collins. They’re an absolute symphony of shouting, crashing and odd sounds. But as much as I love them, their entry to the Two of the Beatles have Died compilation just gives me a headache.
I wish someone shouted ‘TELL ME YOUR STORIES’ at me.
My way of downloaidng songs from myspace is DEAD so i can only link you for the time being. Sad times ahead, but go HERE
