Another one stolen from Huw Stephens right here. Rainbow Arabia are everything you’ve ever like about world music mixed up with some quite simple, elextro dance music. They’re experimental, exciting and are definitely something you could put on at a decent party without people thinking that you were trying to show off about how diverse you are.
The band’s sound is heavily dependant on ‘lebanese synthethisers’ and percussion intruments. In terms of a decent comparison, it’s seemingly a commonly held belief that they’re simply Gang Gang Dance-lite, but that’s unfair on both bands, really and was probably only helped by the fact that the two toured together. To put it in simple, universal terms, it’s like if M.I.A.’s music without the rapping and massive, broad political overtones. And without all the people that you’ve ever known dancing along. It’s beautiful, but in a way that will make you want to dance.
