There seems to be an entire generation of people who think that not reading many books is okay as long as you’ve got anj encyclopedic knowledge of the Harry Potter series. Not that I’m jealous or anything, but Harry and the Potters may not be the former (I’m sure they read loads of books), but they certainly fit the latter. Leaders of the Wizard Rock genre (a genre so frightful it makes me cringe to write it out), they’re coincidentally the only decent band on the scene, from what I’ve heard anyway.
their songs may be based on the Harry Potter books, but their genius lies in the universal nature of the songs. For instance, I might not know the precise page number or context of Harry potter’s date with Cho Chang, but I know what it’s like to be an awful person and think I’m in the right when i’m not, so The Human Hosepipe still has some relevence to me.
Whilst not being sentimental or actually quite funny (‘I’d rather not talk about your dead ex-boyfriend over coffee’ being one of my favourite lines), they’re trying their hands at hundreds of different genres, tirelessly. They might jump from sound to sound, but they kepp the familiar, basement-recording, almost lo-fi recording aesthetic throughout. In short, they’re brilliant. But the point of this post was that they need a drummer, and if you’re willing to do a few shows (probably in Libraries) then hit them up at their official site here.
