I think I actually love Los Campesinos!. I don’t know – every so often I turn into a real fanboy and get really into a band, but it’s always for a reason. I’ve got a cousin or auntie or something (non-blood, married in) who is absolutely convinced that she’s pregnant with Brendan Flowers child. I am not kidding, at all – she gets away with it because all the older people in the family don’t quite understand how big The Killers are, nor how attractive he is. They dopn’t understand that, to have a picture on your phone, you don’t have to take it yourself, or that to have a picture with someone from a band might mean you might have just asked them, or that when someone puts you on the phone to someone saying they’re Brendan Flowers and they sound like a drunk old man, they’re probably just a drunk old man.
I am not that obsessive about Los Campesinos!. But I do absolutely adore them – musically, I think they’re spot on, the perfect mixture of depth and pop, though part of me does yearn for the Tweexcore days. But it’s the lyrics I think I mist adore – from the moment I heard the line ‘control+alt+deleting your face with no reservations’, i think i was in love. If I wasn’t, then ‘I’d be Tony Cascarino circa 1995’ sealed it. Though those are two laugh out loud lyrics – most of them are painstaking, brutal and desperately close to the bone, and watching them being performed on stage is an absolute treat. Here’s a review I did for The Line of Best Fit:
