If you’ve already produced Emmy the Great, Jeremy Warmsley, Noah and the Whale as well as doing work with Bill Bailey, you might find yourself quite content in life. Not Ash Gardner, who can now put being head of the brilliant House of Strange collective onto his already glowing CV.
Gardner himself seems to be a hyperactive hive of inspiration, constantly testing and trying new things. The band’s blog reads like the diary of a mad scientist, with my particular favourite experiment being the band slowing down a song, playing along to it and speeding up the footage. This wild belief in trying out anything and everything certainly transfers itself into the band’s music, with their songs eering somewhere between one of Bradford Cox’s dreams and the best art school band you’ve ever heard in your life. Words aren’t enough, honestly, and House of Strange is much, much more than simply a band. If you’d like proof, then just have a look at this video for ‘Pigeon Claw’ – Michel Gondry would be proud:
That aside, there’s not much to say. They’re ecletic, brilliant and bizarre, but when a band filled with as much creative genius as these come along, you just have to sit back and admire. No downloads, but have some links – definitely worth checking out:
