It’s nice to actually hear someone with talent from time to time. I love passion in music – it’s brilliant, especially live, and it’s excellent to hear that being thrashed out through a record. It’s brilliant when the two are combined, and Therese Aune seems to manage that. it’s hardly the standard kind of thing that gets posted on here, so apologies if this is a bit of a jarring experience for you, but Therese makes music that’s closer to Regine Spektor than to Beat Happening, so sorry for that.
The relatively little that i’ve heard of her work is still wonderful, though. Piano based and elegant, it’s the kind of thing that you’d want playing in the film of your life whilst you made love with the person you’re going to marry in the second act and mourn in the third. That was a horrible sentence, but it is Therese that is making me think like that – her music is stunning, as is her voice. 21 years old and based in Oslo is pretty much what I want to be, and if it would inspire me to make music as sonorous and pleasing as Aune, I’d move in a flash. Unfortunately, my voice sounds like a cat throwing up gravel and my fingers are too chubby for Piano, so you’ll have to make do with her wonderful, wonderful demos. I really like ‘In my Tree’:
