Someone please tell me if this is just a joke account set up by somebody, please? I’m not the biggest Deerhunter fan in the world, so this could easily just be a fan page set up by someone who is desperately in love with Bradford Cox and wanted to have some of his band’s songs as their profile songs. If anything, this will give me the necessary reason to drop everything and start actuall listening to Deerhunter, but for the minute, let’s just stick with Weird Era.
Evidently named after the album ‘Weird Era cont.’ by everyone’s favourite Atlantan cult band, the band seem set on giving anyone interested very little actual information about them with which one could form a coherent post. They have no personal details on their myspace page, except for claiming to be based in Manchester, which is always a start. They don’t seem to really converse with other users of the site either, though, in fairness, they did add me. Fortunately, when compared with many of the terrible, terrible artists that social networking has fostered, they do have the most crucial thing: great songs. Songs so great that they could easily already be fans favourites for a big band already, meaning I’m just years behind the trend.
Anyway, the songs are brilliant shoegazing contraptions that ebb and sway and make you want to, well, gaze at your shoes. and sway as well. There aren’t any songs available for download at the minute, which is a pity, and seeing as all the myspace-song-stealing tools seems to have been stopped by the new layout of the site, there’s not much i can do to help you. Anyway, I’ve begged the band to send me some of their music and hopefull they will, but in the mean time, head over to their myspace to hear them. All the songs are around two minutes in length and they’re all brilliant. if pushed, I’d say that the pop vocals and layered guitar of Summer Heights is the best of the bunch, but ‘Ghost’ sounds like it was recorded by a beach and is great too.
