As I posted earlier this week, I still mourn the fact that I didn’t go see Tom Vek’s ‘We Have Sound’ tour back in 2005. The fact that it was simply a bus-ride and a £10 ticket away actually makes me ache with regret. However, the fact that I never bought a ticket to Sweden to see Lucky Lucky Pigeons hurts me just as hard.
An all-girl threesome, they made power-pop music with more bombast and better awkwardly translated lyrics than Shakira ever could. Their sound was one of joy, happiness and utter disregard for anything other than sickly sweet songs. The fact that they never toured outside of their native Sweden, and that they never really released a record/got signed by anyone is even worse. Completely and utterly ignored by anyone except Steve Lamacq (who gave them the radio playtime that brought them to me), it’s a crying shame that the world isn’t clambouring to get tickets to their concerts. Especially when people as ignorant as the few that actually go and meet in front of their performance at a Swedish festival managed to see them:
Seeing as they split up in mid-2008, there are very few of their MP3’s lurking around. This isn’t helped by the fact that the website that carried most of their online stuff has been taken down. However, Last.fm is always your friend, and they’ve still got the amazing tones of ‘Who Smells Marshmallows’ up for download. It’s their best song, but only just – if you head over to their myspace page, you can listen to the suberb ‘Keep on Kingie’ (sample lyrics: ‘what are you doing, Kingie?/Do you have a ponytail?/Do you have a ponytail?/Do you sleep on a lilo?’) or ‘Knife for Life’ (‘I just wanted to eat some meat/you didn’t tell me you were Vegetarian’ and ‘I’ve got fruits for you/I’m ready to give them away to day’). If anyone still has their seminal ‘Bird Flu’ EP that they gave away in 2008, then please, I beg of you, upload it. It’d make me year. Anyway, here’s the MP3. I’d absolutely love to hear your favourite lyrics from it:

And here’s a post from elsewhere with the lyrics. They once posted them on my Myspace page too.
