John and Edward aside, X Factor is horrible. It’s long, it’s drawn out and it’s ultimately the same stuff every year. Jedward may have thrown a spanner in the works for the time being, but the people that go on their are still just the same old talented-but-not-outrageously-talented fodder you could’ve seen in last years program or the year before or the year before or even in Pop Idol.
However, it is nice when the shows bring us genuine stars. Girls Aloud might be pretty standard singers alone, but with the right songs and the right management, they’ve made some of the best pop music of the past decade. Hoping to follow their road rather than those of Darius Danesh, Steve Brookstein and various other flops, Lisa Mitchell has been touring the UK recently following the release of her debut album. She appeared in Australian Idol without winning it, but as well as an incredible voice, she also plays guitar and seemingly writes her own songs. anyway, she played Manchester last Wednesday and here’s a review of it that I did for This is Fake DIY:
