It’s a mystery how ‘A Lesson in Crime’ didn’t catapult them to straight into the heart of the collective consciousness. Whilst average indie-pop bands like Kaiser Cheifs can play stadiums (in their hometown of Leeds at least), Tokyo Police Club are still playing venues of a much more modest size. Debut long player ‘Elephant Shell’ was the perfect step-up for the band, which more developed songs not getting in the way of the frenetic energy that became their trademark.
Anyway, it’s been around 18 months since that reached our shelves and it was starting to look a bit bleak in terms of news from the band – until last week, that is. On their official website it was announced that they’d arranged a deal with mom+pop to record and release their sophomore effort. It’s currently untitled, but it’s slated for an early 2010 release. Expect more news in the near future.
Here’s Dave from the band playing a new song called ‘Once I was the keeper’:
cannot wait!! im going to hyperventilate until a tracklist is released
