Last night, Wavves played Manchester – it was a pretty awesome show, too. Aside from being supported by two of my favourite new bands in Spectrals and Mazes, they were excellent, tearing through their own material in their own inimitable style. However, watching them, it was hard not think of another band – one of my favourite ever finds on myspace. Scouring http://wikipedia.org for articles might be one of the best ways to waste time on the internet, but their band equivalent are equally entertaining, if not a little bit more useless in terms of compiling last minute essays.
To compare Wikipedia.org directly with Wavves would be an absolute travesty – the two bands might share the same sound of the sonic spectrum, but there styles are wholely different. Wikipedia.org’s lyrics are based upon the internet a lot of the time, whereas their coals are pretty much alwasy decipherable, compared to the Ariel Pink-esque fuzz that’s taken over the Wavves sound. It’s most likely in the sound of the band itself where the likeness came from, with effortlessly brilliant guitar being lavished on both.
I first posted about these over a year ago, and since then Jack from the band has been in touch. By the sounds of it, the band, whilst not officially split up, are on somewhat of a hiatus. They are definitely forming part of the celebratory gig when I win the lottery.
