Doing things for Charity is good. Sky Larkin, Sparky Deathcap, Slow Club, Copy Haho and Los Campesinos! (amongst others) are good. So when you combine the two, what do you get? The ideal Christmas number one. Written by Rod Thomas from Bright Light, Bright Light, it’s entitled ‘The Magic of Christmas’ and was made by a simple process of passing the recording around from one band to the next until the finished product was formed. As well as the list above, My First Tooth, The Airborne Toxic Event, James Yuill, Cereal, The Sound of Arrows and Pulled Apart by Horses were also involved, making this the most indie-pop packed single since XFM tried to ruin everyone’s summer with their World Cup ‘anthem’ in 2006.
A special mention goes to Sparky, not only for his inspired jumper selection, but for his contribution in general. Though I don’t think any of us will ever view Ollie Campesinos! in the same light again, nor Father Christmas for that matter. Here’s the video:
It’s out on December 14th on iTunes and you should buy it, because all the proceeds go to the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals. And because it’s a good song too, obviously.
