let’s start off with what I know about Wu Lyf. They played the In The City showcase. They have a facebook page, on which I am classed as a friend as well as Jack and the Free Trees alumni George Haydock. They have a myspace page which features very little and give almost nothing away and, upon fuirther inspection, only seems to have a picture of one person – Greta, swinging on a railing. They also have a tumblr, which has a link to the one and only song they seem to have streaming online. Justifying the ‘WU LYF PLAY HEAVY POP’ slogan they have bandied around, it seems to be called heavy pop.
So, I am pretty much out of the loop when it comes to the Mancunian music scene by the looks of things, and this is likely a huge underground move that is going to laugh about this in their dingy meetings. Anyway, the air of mystery has been done to death by everyone and anyone, but I can’t stop listening to this. It’s a lot like Egyptian Hip Hop with more anger, which, given their influences on Facebook suggest they sound like them, it could easily be an alter ego. God knows. It’s mainly incomprehensible yelps and distant, Ariel Pink-esque guitar work anyway, and it’s awesome stuff. They’ve only got one top friend on MySpace, so if it’s a solo project, it’s probably him. If you’ve got any information, feel free to add it. But yeah, listen to this – it’s pretty good:

I found your blog through Holly’s and like it, good work!
This band,, as far as i’m aware used to be called Wu Lf Wu Lf and have changed their name a few times because of some line up changes. I saw them supporting Zach Hill (of Hella fame) in Sacred Trinity Church about a year ago and they were quite frankly all over the shop but showed a lot of talent under the surface at the same time.
I hope they can pull things together and get a release out there. soon and some more gigs under their belt, I for one would love to see them again
i used to know all the guys in college so it’s funny how no one know how to receive them. there not out to prove a thing with there spooky image and there name WU LYF come from there first band name Vagina Wolf but i don’t want to give away too much about them, where would the fun be in that!
and whats with everyone saying there like Egyptian hiphop there way more ambient and raw!
Saw them in manchester this weekend they were pretty good, nice floaty feeling of mystery
