Just a small note – if you’ve not heard already, Youthmovies are on their final UK tour before they call it a day and move on to other things. Real life has moved the band far from their Oxford roots, meaning the band is no longer feasible. Members have stressed that everything’s amicable and this is far from a gritty, bitchy break-up which engulfs many bands by the end. To anyone who’s had the pleasure of seeing them live before though, this is a huge loss, and it’ll be a shame to see the five piece enter the abyss.
For iForward, Russia! fans, this is yet another nail in the coffin, as the band had taken the role of main support in the Leeds quartet’s first headline UK tour in their original guise of Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies. Their experimental, math-rock sound is one that garnered them a fair amount of fans, and sharing stages with the likes of 65daysofstatic, Liars and slightly poppier outfits like Blood Red Shoes and Foals. Drowned in Sound put out their debut in 2008 to a decent response, so if you’ve not got into them yet, there’s still time. They play Manchester tonight, followed by Leeds’ Brudenell tomorrow, London’s Borderline on the 26th and culminating in a hometown show at Oxford’s 02 Academy on Saturday. Grab tickets if you can or forever regret not seeing one of the new millenium’s best math rock groups.
