With the amount of recommendations that people love to throw at your, whether in real life (‘listen to Florence and the Machine’s new album, mate’), on the radio (‘Have you heard Florence Welch’s duet with Dizzee Rascal?’) or through blogs such as this one (don’t listen to Florence and the Machine), it’s amazing just how many great bands you can stumble upon by complete coincidence. When you see that one of your of your facebook friends has become a fan of ‘D/R/U/G/S’, you’d usually just write it off as one of those terrible, quirky groups that everyone seems to spend half of all their internet time joining. But in fact, it’s a new band that’s busy making some of the best experimental, instrumental electronic music you’re likely to find blaring from a myspace player.
As with all these cool new bands, they seem to love keeping information about themselves to an absolute minimum, but it seems that it’s a three piece, and they make a sound that almost transcends description. At best, it’s confusing, bewildering and somewhat alarming – no words are spoken in either of the songs they’ve demonstrated so far, but it’s hardly as if they need them. It’s like some bizarre lounge music from the future, but in a really good way, with all the ambience and excitement of a mystical tour through the future. They’ve got dates coming up in London and in Manchester, so catch them if you can.
