JJ – CEO BIRTHDAY (BROKEN BROOMS REMIX)
jj have been making everyone go mad over them recently with their balearic inspired sound and crunk-rock influences. Thst their second album wasn’t as good as their debut Ep and long player barely matters, as it’s still more impressive and fresher than most other stuff out there. Anyway, Broken Brooms has been let loose with their track CEO Birthday, and the results are sublime, with booming bass a suprisingly easy fit. it’s the kind of mash-up that could dominate a summer, and it wouldn’t be a shame if this did.
CRYSTAL CASTLES – EMPATHY (10,000 VOLT GHOST REMIX)
After the Crystal Castles remix yesterday, here’s another one, this time by Bay Area’s 10,000 Volt Ghost. Another rework from a track from the new album, it takes the spectre of the original and turns into a bouncy balllet loose in a keyboard. It sounds like a song from an advert, but a really good advert that makes you want to buy lots of trainers or whatever. far removed from the original, it’s jittery brilliance.

FUCK BUTTONS – DAYTROTTER SESSION
Daytrotter is easily one the best resources on the web, and if you’ve not already raided their archives then you’re missing out on literally days worth of amazing and, importantly, free session music. More than anything, it’s famed for giving artists a chance to strip down their work for a personal, one-on-one feel. Fuck Buttons don’t have a sound that sompromises and they haven’t toned it down for daytrotter, either. If you’ve never seen them live, here’s another reason for you to yearn for them to play your town
MUSIC FOR ANIMALS – NERVOUS IN NY
There’s a time and a place for glossy pop/rock and Music for Animals don’t seem to think that it’s in New York. They’re currently in the process of releasing their debut album after 5 years of being together, and if this free download is anything to go by, it should be one to get you moving. Not the most subtle of tracks, but it’s not ashamed of what it is – upbeat, joyous and very, very poppy. It might not be to your taste, but it’s definitely worth a go
