TEETH!!! – SEE SPACES (VISION OF TREES REMIX)
/DOLBY ANOL REMIX
It looks as though TEETH!!! might finally be going somewhere – which is great for those of us who have been after one of their t-shirts for the past year or so, as it might throw up more opportunities to be frivolous with money. Vision of Trees and Dolby Anol have both put a hacksaw to See Spaces, with the Trees effort getting special kudos for sounding like an industrial disco and the soundtrack to FIFA ’96 on the Super Nintendo at the same time. EFTERKLANG/TURBOWEEKEND REMIX SWAP
It’s nice to see that not all remixes are fuelled by a little bit of record company cash, as Efterklang take advantage of their connections to organise a remix swap with fellow Copenhagen residents Turboweekend, putting both efforts up for free download from their blog. If it was a competition, Klang’s comically haunting reworking of Sweet Jezebel would probably edge it, but they’re both great anyway.
MALE BONDING – DAYTROTTER SESSION
They’re superb live, so it’s no surprise that their Daytrotter session is a bit of a stormer too. Their debut has just been put out on Sub Pop, and you can pretty much ensure that it’s not the last we’ll hear from them. If you’ve not bonded before, consider this a taster of their unique take on garage punk.
UNICORN KID – DREAM CATCHER (DJ DONNA SUMMER REMIX)
Featured on here a few weeks ago, unicorn kid looks to be on the up, and justifiably so. He’s let DJ Donna Summer (presumably not her of ‘I feel love’ fame) have a go with his outstanding track ‘Dream Catcher’, and the NME are running it as an exclusive, which might get a bit more exposure for this chip-pop excellence.
SMITH WESTERNS – BE MY GIRL
Not new in the slightest, but merely in celebration of their ongoing European tour. Next stop: Manchester Deaf Institute, tonight with Yuck and Milkmaid. Not the strongest track from the album, but still brilliant.
