PERFUME GENIUS – LEARNING
From early reviews, it looks as if Perfume Genius is going to be giving us one of the albums of the year. Thankfully for those of us unlucky enough not to have heard it in it’s entirity yet, it’s streaming online and the title track is even available for download, which is enough to sedate until the full release.
RAW MOANS – AQUA NET (D/R/U/G/S REMIX)
Despite the ridiculous name, it’s all you can do to stop yourself falling in love with d/r/u/g/s. Difficult to type, even harder to suggest to friends in real life without sounding stupid, they keep churning out brilliant tracks and remixes, this reworking of Aqua Net being the latest in the series.
LISSIE – BAD ROMANCE (LADY GAGA COVER)
Words cannot describe how utterly bizarre and brilliant this is. Gaga has established herself as the new Queen of pop music, whilst Lissie has been making brilliant folky music with her husky voice, whilst this cover simultaneously increases love for both. Supreme.
PEGGY SUE – WATCHMAN
Their debut album simply grows and grows, and this track is taken from it. whilst possibly not everybody’s bag, they’re undeniably talented, and anyone who puts the effort into giving them a listen is justifiably rewarded.
HEALTH – DIE SLOW (TOBACCO REMIX)
A very small minority ever make something that could be considered a work of genius, and even if the rest of HEALTH’s In Color didn’t quite match up to it’s high, high standard, then they can at least rest assured that Die Slow is showing little signs of ageing, and the repeated remixing of the classic keep refreshing it anew. Tobacco’s version is here, and even though it’s not quite as good as the original, it’s better than pretty much anything else you’re likely to hear this week.
LOCAL NATIVES – DAYTROTTER SESSION
Whilst many others try and copy, Daytrotter is the original and best – this session was posted last week, and it’s yert more proof that the ultimate sessions site is still on the top of it’s game, whilst Local Natives just keep getting better and better. Radio 1’s Live Lounge still as a lot of ground to make up.
BEKO DSL – THE ELECTRIC SUGAR CHILDREN
Same brilliance, another brilliant free single from Beko.
