Being prolific as a musician is easy – it’s as simple as removing your quality filter and spreading pretty much everything you do on the internet in the hope that some of it sticks somewhere. Creating a large, interesting body of work that doesn’t become samey or boring is something that very few manage to achieve. Adoptahighway, though, is not the work of your typical lonely bedroom beatmaker. Barry Clark, the man behind the project, is a classically trained electronic producer making music from his base in Milwaukee, and his online repotoire is something to behold.
It only takes a quick peak at his soundcloud page to reveal an album’s worth of material waiting to be uncovered. The quality is high throughout, with the older tracks tending to take more of a post-rock tinged route that never quite shimmer but remain solid throughout. However, more recent efforts showcase a deft touch, mixing the twinkling splendour of ‘My angel rocks back and forth’-era Four Tet and the bombastic beats of The Knife. It’s a niche market, admittedly, but there’s enough melody and splendour to counterbalance the darker, more brutal moments. A set to get yourself lost within, by any means.
