RUN TOTO RUN – FALL BACK!
With their latest slew of demos seeming to confirm the promise that early recordings hinted at, Run Toto Run are timing their ascent to be the best new band of the summer almost perfection. If that wasn’t enough, they’re also pretty amazing people to boot, and have given me the opportunity to giveaway one of their new tracks. Fall Back! is a slice of synth-pop magnificence, bursting with the sort of downbeat minimalism that they have often hinted at whilst being as achingly beautiful as you’d expect. Get your hands on it below:

DAM MANTLE – REBONG
If you’re being compared to Flying Lotus by Pitchfork, you know that you’re onto a winner. A mention on the most influential music website around is far from the pinaccle of Dam Mantles achievements, however. A recent tour with Gold Panda and Seams should soon be looked back upon with some envy by who can only wish that they’d attended the meeting of such spectacular musicians. This is glitch at it’s finest, taken from his recent Grey EP on Halleluwah records.
M.I.A. – BORN FREE
It’s not a download, but any new M.I.A. is good news. Have a listen on Soundcloud:

CHIPTUNE SPECIAL
In honour of Unicorn Kid, here’s a few 8-bit based downloads.
ANAMANAGUCHI – POWER SUPPLY EP
The undisputed kings of the genre, they may be nerdy, but their so is so incredibly infectious that you won’t even care. Dawn Metropolis might be their masterpiece, but 8-bitpeoples are giving away their earlier work for free, which is still supreme. Like a SNES having an epileptic fit, if you need a proper introduction to the genre, here’s your chance.

BIT SHIFTER – REFORMAT THE PLANET
As a console, the Gameboy had very few amazing moments. Tetris was one, Pokémon another, but most of the games out for it were also-ran, tie-in rubbish, something that’s still true (although to a lesser extent) with the DS today. As an instrument, it’s proving a lot less prosaic, with Bit Shifter crafting his sounds with a dual Game boy set-up. The fact that he can get two 20 year old portable systems to make this kind of rackets compounds my pain in not being able to get past 130 lines.

SHE – TWILIGHT
Whilst most chiptune is based around a fizzy, neon pop based route, She comes up with something a lot more atmospheric in under 2 minutes. Born in Poland, living in Sweden, She (or Lain Tszaska as his real name is) first learnt Piano before transferring over to more electronic means and has a tonne of songs available on his last.fm page:

8BITPEOPLES BACKCATALOGUE
As linked to above, the people who do Blip festival have a ridiculous amount of free music to download on their website. Though it’s a genre that can’t fail to give a headache after half an hour, it’s definitely worth a trawl for the several hundred gems it contains
